Review of Housing Management Service - Update

26 September 2019

The council has decided to bring the housing service back under the council’s direct management.

Review of Housing Management Services

Following an ‘in principle’ decision to bring the housing service back under the council’s management, the decision has now been finalised by the council's Policy and Finance Committee on the 26th September 2019.  As a consequence of this, Newark and Sherwood Homes staff will transfer across to the council in accordance with TUPE before 1st April 2020. All tenants will be informed of this decision by letter.

It is important to note that this decision does not in any way affect tenancy or leaseholders’ rights; the council remains the landlord of these properties.

The management of the council’s housing services is currently provided by Newark and Sherwood Homes (NSH). The company was set up by the council 15 years ago in order to secure national decent homes funding to improve council homes. It is estimated that bringing the management of housing services back ‘in house’ will save approximately £1million per year. After allowing for inflation this means that additional resources will be available, estimated at £40million over the next 30 years, which will be re-invested in frontline housing services and new council homes, to improve the lives and homes of tenants.
